Broken, But Not Alone!

“Broken, But Not Alone!”

In life, time and chance happen to us all. Meaning, life in itself is going to bring a certain amount of suffering and adversity. Whether it’s witnessing the evils taking place around the world or whether it’s something personal that we are going through in our own life. If there is anything we can take to the bank, one thing is for certain..., we are all going to suffer to some extent and become broken to some degree. It’s these trials of afflictions, sickness, grief, sadness, shame, depression, betrayal, and loss that will break us from time to time to the point we may question God, doubt our faith, and even feel like giving up. Life has a way of beating us up and a way of beating us down!

However, this is where today’s devotion is so important to remember as we continue to navigate through the maze of our suffering. In Ecclesiastes 4:12 it says, “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not easily broken.” Praise the Lord, that although we may be broken, grow weary, or feel defeated, a cord of three strands is not easily broken! Although, life has a tendency of dragging us through the mud, what a wonderful reminder of Scripture that reassures us that we are not alone in our brokenness; that God is with us; that God never leaves us nor forsakes us; and that God can pick up the broken pieces of our life and mend them back together.

And notice that in today’s verse, it doesn’t say God’s people won’t be broken at some point in their life, or broken many times throughout their life. No! It says a cord of three strands is not “easily” broken. In the beginning of verse 12 it affirms, that one can be overpowered in battle, but two can defend themselves. And if two is better than one, how much greater is three in the fight together? A mighty force to be reckon with, especially when one of those strands is God himself! Think about it…. How much more difficult will it be to break someone who not only has someone they can turn to during their season of suffering, but also has a third strand in their relationship with the Lord who they can rely on for strength, healing, wisdom, comfort, and peace? A cord that has three strands, with one of those strands being your relationship with Christ, is not easily broken. Why? Because whenever we go through the rigors of this life, we can always look up to what Jesus did on the cross of crucifixion to find the encouragement we need to fight the good fight for the faith, which is why our relationship with God becomes the most essential relationship in our life to maintain!

So remember, that although we may be broken, we are not alone! We may be down, but not out! We may have lost, but not all is loss! We may have failed, but we have the victory in Christ! And we may have fallen flat on our face, but we have another day to rise back up just as Jesus rose from the grave, because a cord that has three strands will be held together by the power of our God who is able to hold all things together!

Let us pray:

Father God,

We give you honor and praise for who you are and for giving us your Son, Jesus Christ who is the resurrection and the Word that was in the beginning. We thank you for all that you have done for us! Please continue to sustain us and heal us from our brokenness. Please let us never forget that a cord of three strands is not easily broken, especially with you as the primary strand. And let us always look up to what your Son did on the cross for our sins so that we can continue to do your will and fight the good fight for the faith,

In Jesus name we pray,

Amen!

Stay Blessed on this beautiful Friday Saints!
