"The Jesus Life"

When Jesus says in John 14:6, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me,” many times Christians quote this famous verse, but really don't know the meaning of what they are quoting. So, today’s post is going to focus on what Jesus means when he says, “I am the life” since this is the time of year we celebrate Jesus’ birth and life. However, what does Jesus really mean when he says, “I am the life?” Is Jesus referring to the period between birth and death; the mere human existence of a person? Or, did Jesus have more in mind? According to the ancient Greek "zo-a" meaning of life, there are several connotations associated with the word life. Therefore, when Jesus says that “I am the life,” Jesus means several things..; that his life is the only life that is power that gives continued life; that his life is the only life that brings other lives to life; that his life is the only life that gives spiritual life; that his life is the only life that gives eternal life, that his life is the only life that renews lost souls to life, that his life is the only life that can make your life complete, and that his life is the only life that can save other lives from being condemned for life. When Jesus says that "I am the life," not only does Jesus mean that his life can renew your life in the physical and in the spiritual, but Jesus also means that his life is the only life that can give life after death. Jesus says in John 11:25, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live even though he dies.”

Furthermore, when Jesus says, “I am the life” Jesus also means that there is no other life to ever exist on the planet earth that people can believe in to be saved and receive eternal life. THERE IS NO OTHER LIFE! According to several studies, approximately 108 billion people have lived on planet earth thus far regardless of the opinions surrounding the age of the earth (check out this website for more information, http://www.prb.org/Publications/Articles/2002/HowManyPeopleHaveEverLivedonEarth.aspx). Which means what? That out of that statistic, only one life is able to give life to the other 107 billion, 999 million, 999 thousand, 9 hundred and 99 lives, which is who? THE JESUS LIFE!! Acts 4:12 says, “Salvation can be found in one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”

However, the question that still remains to be answered is: How does "The Jesus Life" accomplish eternal life for those who believe in him? The answer is simple; The Cross! Why? Because according to Leviticus 17:11-13 it says three times in the passage that "the life of every creature is in the blood." Which means what? That when Jesus says “I am the life,” Jesus also means that his blood is the only blood that has the eternal DNA of the life-giving God that was sufficient enough to be shed on the cross for humanity. Jesus' blood is the only blood worthy enough to cover the sins of the whole world, unlike the Old Testament sacrificial system where atonement for sin had to be performed on an annual basis. Jesus' blood is the only blood that possessed the power to not only cover sin once and for all, but his life also possessed the power to give continued life after the flesh to anyone who believes in him. So while Jesus's blood was trickling down from the cross, as his life was being sacrificed, it was through his death that brought life to many!
